Lydie Cabane's Course

 

 Lydie Cabane (Leiden University)

      

Lydie Cabane is senior Assistant Professor at the Institute for Security and Global Affairs. Her main interests include crises, governance, public policy, states, expertise, European Union and global politics. Prior to joining Leiden University, she worked at the London School of Economics. She holds a PhD from Sciences Po Paris (2012). She is an associate editor of the International Review of Public Policy. Her research delves into three main areas: 1) understanding crisis management as a public policy; 2) the protective politics of the crisis management state in a comparative perspective; 3) crisis expertise and knowledge.  She currently contributes to an ANR funded research project on protection policies against social risks related to environmental risks and disasters in European countries. She has carried research on disaster management in South Africa, global health and pandemic management, and transboudary crisis management in the European Union. She has published The Government of Disasters. State formation and Disaster Management in South Africa (Palgrave, 2023).

 

 

Course: From Manuscript to Publication: Navigating the Academic Writing and Publishing Process in Public Policy

 

 

This course is designed to guide you through the process of transforming your academic paper into a publishable article. We will comprehensively explore the essential elements of crafting a compelling scholarly manuscript in public policy, including how to: 1) Develop a strong research problem and theoretical framing; 2) Structure your argument effectively; 3) Refine your writing for academic audiences; 4) Navigate publishing practices and journal submission strategies. Throughout the course, we will collaboratively work on your paper to enhance its publication potential. You will gain hands-on experience with peer review techniques, learning how to both critically evaluate others' work and constructively respond to reviewers' feedback.
