Course: Analyzing Policy Processes in Healthcare

The aim of the course is to present different perspectives for the study of policy processes in healthcare, with a focus on the role of policy actors, the comparative dimensions and the way to grasp the multi-level characteristics of this complex policy field in relation with general approaches of the policy processes, especially policy transfer, policy translation, the programmatic action framework, sociology of professions, sociology of science and expertise, bureaucratization, multi-level governance…).  It will be divided in five parts:

      1. The comparative analysis of health policies (with a focus on the role of policy transfer and policy translation processes);
      2. Analyzing the transformation of healthcare systems (with a focus on the role of programmatic groups in policy change);
      3. Health professionals and patients in health policies (questioning the evolution of power relations in healthcare systems);
      4. The role of scientific expertise in health policies (with a focus on the shaping of expertise agencies, especially in relation with the COVID 19 pandemic);
      5. The multilevel analysis of health policies: from global health to territorialization (including the European level).
