Andrea Migone's course

Andrea MIGONE (Simon Fraser University, Canada)

 

 

Andrea Migone is Senior Research Fellow at Simon Fraser University; his research agenda centers on the nature and effects of policy advice on the intersection of public administration and politics. The practical areas of research and publications he focuses on are policy capacity, Policy Advisory Systems, the role and activities of both internal and external sources of advice, including public administrators, consultants and academics, the approach to management by top public administrators, and policy styles. Recently, he has also published on the theory of ideational robustness, policy persistence and the role of quality in Policy Advisory Systems. Andrea also works on military procurement (including the role of alignment of policy framing and implementation capacity) and the role of consultant in providing advice to governments.

Andrea has published widely in journals such as Policy and Society, Policy Design and Practice, Policy & Politics, Public Policy and Administration, International Journal of Public Leadership, and Science and Public Policy among others. 

He has also worked as the Director of Research and Outreach for the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, where he developed and led multiple projects in Canada and internationally targeted at increasing internal policy capacity for multiple public services including the Cayman Islands, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mongolia, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Vietnam. 

 

 

Course: Applying Policy Analysis in the 21st Century

 

How can we frame the discipline of policy analysis so that we bring together both the latest theoretical frameworks and the constraints that using policy analysis and implementing its suggestions in the public sector of the early 21st century where increasing tensions, lack of resources and capacity, and shifts in the sources of advice have become almost normalized.
